About This Event

SIMPLY CHUFFED TO BE FIRST IN 12 YEARS!

Deal hosts a model railway exhibition for the first time in 12 years when the Landmark Centre in the town's High Street will be filled with miniature trains on Saturday 7 March.

Some 20 layouts, featuring model railways in a variety of sizes and scales, and 10 reputable specialist traders, feature at the event being organised by the Whitstable based East Kent Model Railway Society, in aid of its funds. It will be the first, and largest, of four exhibitions the club is planning across the eastern half of the county during 2026.

The event is designed to appeal to families as well as enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. The exhibits range in size from a couple of feet wide to others up to 20 feet long depicting busy junctions and swathes of landscape.

EKMRS Chairman Nick Evans said: "We realised it has been a long time since Deal a model railway show so, ever keen to attract new audiences to our events, we decided to do something about that. Local fans have had to travel some distance to 'feed their habit' for a while – but now we are bringing a superb event to them.

"Initially we decided to book the centre's two main first floor rooms but there was such a rush by exhibitors and traders to take part that we had to take on a third room, which is on ground level, to fit everybody in! We have been delighted by the response and the show promises to be one of the largest events to be held at the Landmark Centre in a number of years.

"It certainly promises to be the largest event the club has organised for a long time."

Model railways have an enduring appeal across the age range and this will be reflected in the exhibits on display – some will feature traditional steam outlines while others are just as likely to include more modern diesel and electric styles of rolling stock. Sophisticated electronics enable them to be controlled by tablet or smartphone while also offering a higher level of detail.

Exhibits are coming from across the county and belong either to clubs or individual enthusiasts. Traders will be offering a wide selection of pre-loved and nearly new models, accessories and spare parts, some of them elusive.

Light refreshments will be on sale throughout the day in the Landmark Centre's café. For those who need it, the venue has a lift enabling people to reach the first floor rooms more easily.
