Maison Dieu and Mayor's Parlour Open Days

Sat, 19 Sept 2026 10:00-16:00 Maison Dieu · Dover Town Hall, Biggin Street

About This Event

To tie in with this year's Heritage

Open Days theme, the Maison Dieu is exploring the ordinary, and

often extraordinary stories of everyday people associated with the

building over more than 800 years, from medieval pilgrims, to

workers in the Dover Victualling Yard, Victorian gaol prisoners,

campaigners for Votes for Women, families attending the 1930s soup

kitchen and World War Two soldiers and service personnel attending

the popular Town Hall dances, despite regular air raids.

Meet the Maison Dieu Stitchers

Through Time as they teach you common repair stitches that

would have been used to mend clothing and materials through

history. Free drop in activity in collaboration with the Friends of

the Maison, Heritage Stitching group. Try on our ever-growing

selection of Maison Dieu inspired costumes and props for children

and adults.

Explore research by our Ambassadors

into everyday histories of the Maison Dieu.

Feel the the Victorian masons' marks
