Dave Smith

My show features a wide cross section of new and classic country music songs; traditional and modern folk music; together with a spattering of blues, Americana and bluegrass. I play songs from music legends and less well known artists, from across the decades. Each week, there is a featured album and also a cover version of a popular song.

Joining DCR is my first venture into broadcasting and happened when I responded to a call for new volunteers. I have always had a love of music, growing up on classic 70s rock and prog. But  I developed an interest in country music around the late 80s, when country music in the USA was going through a revival. My interest in folk stems from my playing ukulele and going to folk clubs and open mics.

I have been running Sandwich Folk Club since 2023, a monthly acoustic sing- around club for musicians and singers. I also play ukulele with local trio Three Wheelin’; guitar with My Guitar Club and guitar with the Dave Alan Project. In 2025, I joined the Sandwich Folk & Ale Festival Committee and have just have become its secretary.

I also want to give a shout out to the many community music groups across the DCR area. We have many folk clubs, ukulele groups and other music groups across the area, all run by volunteers and I want to give them a mention on my show.
