Davy Sims
The finest cultural music from 'Around the World'
Davy Sims is a multi‑award‑winning producer and broadcaster from Belfast, known for his passion for radio, world music, and digital innovation. He began his career in 1979 at Downtown Radio, championing emerging punk and new wave artists, before moving to BBC Radio Ulster in 1986. Over the next decade, he helped shape a new generation of broadcasters, musicians, and journalists, and later took senior production roles at BBC Radio 1 and Radio 4 in London.
In 1999, Davy became BBC Northern Ireland’s first New Media Producer — and later Editor — leading the organisation into the digital age with ground breaking work across web, mobile, interactive TV, and online community projects.
After leaving the BBC, he lectured in radio production and analytics at Dublin Business School, advised Ireland’s Broadcasting Authority on funding schemes, and contributed to digital tourism projects in Slovenia.
Davy now hosts Around the World, a weekly global music show heard across Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Australia, Germany, and Sri Lanka. He also serves on the jury for World Music Charts Europe.
Beyond broadcasting, he directs Belfast DAB Plus, advancing digital radio, and leads Enterprise Media Ireland, supporting media training for refugees. He has also played a key role in Belfast’s UNESCO City of Music status through steering group work and trusteeship at the Argyle Business Centre.
You can hear Davy Sims on DCRFM throughout the week. Check our schedule for upcoming shows.
